Lecture Notes

It’s that time of year again, right? Well here is some timeless advice.

For each topic, focus on learning:

  • The key principle (for instance what Manslaughter is and what statute and section it belongs to)
  • The debates and controversies around the topic (there will always be something to discuss – so look for it)
  • The leading thinkers and commentators (pick at least two for each side)
  • Relevant cases (one for each point you make)

It’s as simple as a checklist – all those pages of lecture notes you took? Read them, understand them, they are just a guideline to tell you what to look for. Don’t content yourself with what everyone else has!
